The Best Marketing Angle You’ve Never Tried

Everyone wants a marketing hack that makes growing their business easier.

But according to business guru @MarketingMax (9 figures in attributable revenue delivered to clients), one of the best no-cost marketing hacks is finding the one angle that makes people foam at the mouth wanting what you sell.

Lucky for you @MarketingMax put together a quick 2-page Google Doc breaking down how to find yours in 10 minutes, with 20+ real examples you can steal from.

Say you have $10,000 saved. Maybe it's a bonus. Maybe it's two years of skipping things. You want it to do something, and you want to stop asking a boss for every extra dollar.

Here's what that same check buys in three places, with real numbers. This is Weekend Money: one money question, answered plainly.

The floor: about $35 a month for doing nothing

Before anything else, know what safe money pays. The 13-week Treasury bill yielded about 4.15% on October 5, 2026. On $10,000 that's roughly $35 a month, with no work and no risk of losing the $10,000. Rates move, so check the current number.

Every other choice has to beat that by enough to be worth the risk.

Option 1: an index fund

A broad S&P 500 fund has grown about 10% a year on average, dividends included, from 1928 through 2025, per NYU Stern's historical return data. That's the long-run winner for growth.

Two catches. It pays you almost nothing each month. And it moves: the same data shows the index lost about 18% in 2022. You need to be able to leave it alone.

Good for: money you won't touch for ten years.

Option 2: one or two machines

A placed vending machine costs roughly $2,000 to $5,000 all-in, so $10,000 covers two machines plus stock and a small cushion. Two machines at average sites commonly net $400 to $700 a month in that same guide's estimates.

Now the honest part. That number includes your labor. Two machines take a few hours a week to stock, drive and fix. Price that time and the gap shrinks. And a weak site can net under $100 a month. The location decides almost everything.

Good for: people who want cash they can see every week, and are willing to work a few hours for it.

Option 3: buy into a running route

Routes for sale on BizBuySell asked a median of 2.3 times annual cash flow across 129 listings that showed numbers (snapshot as of October 1, 2026). Rough math: at that multiple, $10,000 buys about $4,300 a year of listed cash flow, or around $360 a month. Illustrative only.

Two warnings. Listed cash flow is usually before the owner pays themselves for the driving and stocking. And $10,000 rarely buys a whole route, so this is often a small one or a single machine with its location.

Good for: people who want day-one cash flow and will do real homework before paying.

The fund grows on a screen. The machine pays you in quarters and card taps you can count on Friday. Plenty of people do both: keep a reserve in T-bills, put long-term money in a fund, and use a machine to build cash flow they can feel.

If the machine path is the one that pulls at you, check the building before you buy anything. The free calculator shows what a location type could bring in.
